Goodbye 2020
Posted on December 26, 2020
Undoubtedly, 2020 is an unprecedented year. On April, we lost our founding director Professor Klette of this research centre during the first lockdown of Auckland. However, our team and students were not affected by this unexpected matter, the lockdowns made us stay at home and let us more concentrate on our research work, our research projects and PhD thesis work keep going as usual along with the tremendous grief. With continuously granted research proposals and scholarships, uninterruptedly published high-quality journal articles, and endlessly graduated PhD students, CeRVers commemorate the founding director using the distinctive contributions. Although the submission deadline was postponed, CeRVers still established ISGV 2021 conference with the Events team of this University. By now, the paper review work has been accomplished, we are at the final stage and anticipate meeting the attendees from both online and onsite whilst we usher in the new year.
Reinhard Klette Postdoctoral Fellowship
Posted on September 29, 2020
For commemorating our late Professor Reinhard Klette, a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand (RSNZ), the founding director of CeRV centre, especially thanks for his tremendous contributions to the friendship between Shandong China and New Zealand, the Shandong Academy of Sciences (SDAS ) China would like to establish the Postdoctoral Fellowship and PhD Scholarship, both named after Professor Klette, and encourage young talents who have received their PhD degree recently to work and study in China or New Zealand. Professor Klette was the chief scientist of SDAS, the recipient of Quancheng Friendship Award, and an honorary citizen of Shandong China. Professor Klette’s legacy will inspire a generation of young Chinese PhD students to collaborate with CeRV.
Concise Computer Vision
Posted on September 16, 2020
For memorialising our late Professor Reinhard Klette, especially his mighty contributions to digital geometry and computer vision in academic society, CeRV has inaugurated a series of online seminars since 02 July 2020 with our staff members and research students together to partake the contents of the well-known Springer book: Concise Computer Vision. The topics thoroughly covered the chapters of this book from Fourier transform to stereo vision as well as 3D reconstruction. The deep connections of these topics to modern mathematics, e.g., functional analysis and optimisation theory, have been unveiled and explicated.
Meanwhile, CeRV proceeds the first ISGV conference which will be on Jan 2021, the dates are near Professor Klette’s birthday. We anticipate Professor Klette’s students and colleagues who have been working with him will get together at our vicinity in the best summer time of this hemisphere where Professor Klette has left his footprints.
